San Diego State dropped to No. 19 in the Baseball America Top 25 rankings released today.
UC Irvine (26-10) ascended to No. 1 in the rankings for the first time in school history on the strength of a three-game sweep of UC Riverside. A midweek loss at USD wasn't held against the Anteaters.
The Aztecs were ranked No. 15 a week ago, but a midweek loss to UCLA and two losses in three games at New Mexico cost the club four spots in the rankings.
SDSU (26-15) plays Long Beach State at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Tony Gwynn Stadium before playing host to Mountain West Conference rival TCU in a crucial three-game series this weekend. The Aztecs won two-of-three games between the games at TCU last month.
The Aztecs are in fourth place in the MWC with a 9-6 record. New Mexico and BYU are 10-5 and TCU is 6-3. The Horned Frogs had their entire three-game series against Air Force cancelled over the weekend by snow and the games will not be made up. That means the MWC regular season champion will have to be determined by winning percentage since conference teams will not play the same number of games.
